To keep skin looking young and healthy, cleanse away impurities and dead skin cells by exfoliating regularly.
One of the best things you can do for your skin to keep it healthy and beautiful is regular exfoliation. When you exfoliate, you cleanse away pore clogging oils and pollutants. You also scrub off dead skin cells, revealing the fresh, beautiful skin underneath.

There are several ways to exfoliate, as Dr. Drew Ordon discusses today on The Doctors. He suggests professional microdermabrasion treatments to refresh the skin. With a combination of gentle abrasion and suction, the layer of dead skin is lifted, showing smoother skin below. This new layer is largely free from sun damage and fine lines and pore size are minimized. Many people also use this treatment to successfully remove and diminish crows feet and acne scars. Several sessions are needed and each treatment costs about $100-$300.
Exfoliation at home is also an option to keep skin at its best. Dr. Ordon recommends the Olay Pro-X device to scrub away impurities. Though not as powerful as professional microdermabrasion, with regular use patients can see similar results. The Olay Pro-X is available at most pharmacies for around $30.
Making your own exfoliating scrub at home is easy and only requires a few common ingredients. One simple DIY scrub is made with coffee, sugar and vanilla. Combine 1/4 cup of olive oil and a teaspoon of vanilla extract in a bowl and separately, combine 1/2 cup fresh coffee grinds and one cup of sugar. Add the mixtures together to make a thick paste and apply it in the shower. First wash thoroughly, then rub the exfoliating scrub all over. Rinse completely, towel dry, and then apply a good body lotion for the best results. This scrub is not for use on the face or sensitive skin.
Consistent skin care is your best bet for healthy skin now and in the future. Taking care of this important organ now can help spare you expensive laser and surgical treatments down the line.
