Tool Time Tuesday...Magnetic Board

Happy Tuesday everyone!! Hope you had a wonderful weekend. I had my ladies Christmas dessert party and it was great...so much fun and so much food. Now I have to get some shopping done, I'm so far behind.

First, I have to share this week's Tool Time. It's from the hardware store again. I really need to get a part time job there!!

I found this frame in a consignment shop for $10.00. It's a big one 24 x 33. I took out the ugly picture and added this piece of metal and Woo Hoo, I have a great new magnet board for over my desk. See below for the quick steps

Here is the piece of metal. Don't ask for "Sheet Metal" because that is super expensive...some were $40 a sheet. Go to the metal chimney or roof venting section. The pieces came in 2 sizes. This one was the largest 24" x 36" and they were only $5.00 and $7.00 each.

Find your frame,

The width of mine fit perfectly,

but the length needed to be cut, so just mark it with a pencil (sorry so blurry)

Draw a line with a pencil and a straight edge.

pencil works the best.

This is soooooo important. PLEASE wear leather gloves when trimming the metal with tin snips. It is so sharp and can cut you very easily. I'm not sure if you brought in the measurements if they would cut it for you at the store...worth a try!!

It does cut smoothly, just hold up the piece you are cutting away on the left. Hold it up as you go.

Put the back on the frame and fold over the wires if you have them. I didn't so I used framing points.

These little triangle thingies.

Just poke them into the frame.

Tap them in,

and it holds everything in tightly.

I glued button to magnets..see the little black button, too cute.

I also glued old sewing machine bobbins to the magnets...even the thread is still on

Here's a little extra tip...how about using a tape measure for a bow, great for a little wreath in your sewing room.

This was a fast project, but so handy to hold up notes, patterns, to do list, pictures, bills, mail, coupons, invitations etc. This would be great any where in your home too. Give it a try!!!
